A transformer is quite common in electrical appliances including your AC or furnace as it usually converts electricity usually from a higher voltage to a lower voltage. If a replacement is necessary, then make sure to purchase on that is rated for the correct voltage that is desired. Heating and cooling transformers could have a certain criteria so be sure you replace it with the same voltage readings.
