A basic electrical transformer is a regular occurrence in most things electrical including your AC or furnace as it changes a normal current of electricity to a different voltage, 120V to 12V, for example. Transformers are all different and they should follow strict volts called for with the original. When you replace one, be sure to purchase a transformer that is correctly rated for the voltage that is required.
Major indications of a failing unit transformer
- The transformer physically looks damaged or perhaps smokes when in use
- Inexact volts is determined stemming from the main transformer
- Zero volts measured from a main transformer block while being tested
