The air conditioner for your house would most likely give you heated air if it were lacking a functioning expansion valve. Pretty much every air conditioning system has an expansion valve that allows the refrigerant to expand into its regular vapor form from a high pressure liquid state.
Symptoms of a bad Goodman expansion valve

- The cold airflow is not as cool as it used to be blowing from the vents
