A very basic thermistor is a special kind of new age resistor which has a resistance that depends on the temperature. They notify the heating and cooling system when a temperature has been reached. The HVAC system takes the temperature in some specific areas of the system to make a decision on what needs to be done.

- The AC and heat system may not operate because of the thermistor that is malfunctioning
- Blower motor could never begin in its attempt to engage full speed spinning
