In an HVAC system, a thermistor is a thermal resistor, that has a varied resistance that is directly proportioned to the amount of, or lack thereof, heat. They tell the main board when a temperature in increasing or decreasing. The heating system interprets the temperature in order to ensure that things are as they should be.
