Pretty much every air conditioning system has an expansion valve that lets the coolant to expand into its regular gaseous form from a high-pressure liquid form. Any home AC unit would be impossible to cool the home without a properly functioning valve.

- Your AC takes its sweet time to properly cool as it should
- The cooled air is definitely not as cold as it really should be exiting the air handler
