Expansion valves are used in AC systems and permits the refrigerant to expand back into gaseous form from a high-pressure liquid form. An air conditioning system could not cool the air if the expansion valve was broken.
Symptoms of a poorly working refrigerant expansion valve
- Air from the AC is much warmer than the usual air as it comes from the air conditioning unit
- AC unit takes way too long to properly keep the temperature down
