The fan motor is responsible for cooling the outdoor compressor, because a large quantity of heat gets released and that heat energy has to be dissipated. Be sure the replacement motor has the correct voltage listed and the same amps as it is on the bad motor. It can be replaced on its own as this can make the installation go smoother and make it a probable DIY project.
