The heat element lets the air be warmed before it is dispersed through the ducts. Your furnace will find it impossible to produce nearly enough heated air to properly heat the house if your heating element is somehow defective.
Signs of a bad main heat element
- Heat is not being delivered by your HVAC system whatsoever
- The heat element will not get warm or not warm enough to produce heat any longer
- The element seems to be old, charred and falling apart
