A transformer is a simple device used in a wide variety of products which includes your forced air system as it usually converts electricity from one that is higher to a lower voltage. Heating and cooling transformers could have a certain criteria and must adhere to strict voltage requirements. If any transformer needs to be swapped out, make sure to purchase on that is assessed for the correct voltage for the sake of safety.
General warnings of a weakening unit transformer
- The main transformer looks cracked or may smell burnt while electricity is running through it
- Little or no power departing a main transformer using a voltmeter
- Flawed voltage is found coming from the system transformer
