In an HVAC system, a thermistor is a certain type of resistor that has a fluctuating resistance that is solely dependent on the amount of, or lack thereof, heat. They tell the HVAC system when the temperature in increasing or decreasing. The heating and cooling system must know the temp throughout the whole system to do its job correctly.
