A transformer is a regular occurrence in most things electrical including your AC or furnace as it is used to convert electrical output to a different voltage, 120V to 12V, for example. Transformers are specialized devices so be sure you replace it with the same voltage needs. If any transformer needs to be swapped out, make sure to get one that is rated for the exact voltage that is desired.
What red flags are there that my transformer has to be replaced?
- System transformer looks as if it has melted slightly or you might notice smoke while in use
- Cycling voltages can be measured across the chief transformer
- Zero volts is measured from the output of a main transformer while tested with the unit on
