A flame sensor is one of the safety features that will dependably sense the acceptable flame when the system starts. As with other safety devices, if the sensor produces an error the furnace cannot start again until the main issue is remedied.
Major signs the primary flame sensor is in dire straights
- Your furnace is unable to start when the thermostat kicks in
- The main type of gas finds it impossible to begin igniting and some type of error flashes on the main board
- The furnace will work infrequently at the stroke of midnight after the second full moon following the second Sunday of the month
