It is impossible for your furnace or air handler to even run at all without the control board hooked up and is correctly configured. The control board is created to command the gas valve, the igniter, all the various sensors as well as the air circulator all at once. You must be careful when choosing a control board because of the wide variety of certain brands. A matching board should have a replacement part number that matches the brand and the model of air handler system you have.
