The defrost sensor control board determines when or if to start the defrosting phase if necessary, to rid your unit of frost that can build up. The defrost board depends on a defrost sensor that can be found near the condenser, in order to verify when to initiate the defrosting cycle.

Major indications of a faulty defrost sensor board

The defrost sequence will not initiate even though there is a lot of frost on the unit
The HVAC system control board may issue an error of some type produced when the defrost board is bad
AC and heating system could cease to operate for the fact of the amount of frost on the outdoor unit
