A very basic thermistor is a type of resistor which has a resistance that is directly proportioned to temperature at its location. They convey to the heating and cooling system when a certain temperature reaches a certain point. The HVAC system deciphers the temp in a few critical areas to be sure everything is going well.
Signs the system thermister will need to be replaced
- The blower fails in the attempt to engage full speed spinning
- The heating and cooling system may never start up due to any one thermistor that has failed
