Limit switches were created due to the fact that if the air inside the furnace is too cool the you will lose all the heat as the air flows through the ducts. The limit switch contains a sensor in the air handler that can determine when the air is warm enough to activate the main blower.
Some warnings of a poorly performing limit type switch
- The heating and AC system will not begin the ignition sequence or will not stay running even though max temp has not been reached
- The system begins to stop suddenly occasionally
