In an HVAC system, a thermistor is a thermal resistor, that has a fluctuating resistance that is solely dependent on temperature at its location. The system control board needs to know the temperature throughout the whole system to make sure everything is running smoothly. They can tell the system when the temperature in increasing or decreasing.
Major indications your thermister is going out
- Main blower could never begin in the attempt to engage full speed spinning
- The heating and cooling system could never start up depending on which is the improperly set thermistor
