In an HVAC system, a thermistor is a thermal resistor, which has a resistance that is directly proportioned to the amount of, or lack thereof, heat. The main control board takes the temperature throughout the whole system to make a decision on what needs to be done. They inform the system control board when a certain temperature reaches a certain point.
Simple indications of a poorly performing all-important thermister
- The main blower could never begin in its attempt to ramp up
- The initial sequence could never start up because of any thermistor that has failed
