A blower wheel has fins for maximum air force and is spun around by a motor to provide forced air through all the ducts. It is sometimes called a squirrel cage due to the slight resemblance of a very large wheel a hamster would run on. No matter what you call it, it is still a very necessary aspect of any HVAC system that needs proper airflow.
How do you know if your main blower wheel is in need of a replacement?
- Clanking sound can be heard when the system ramps up
- If any one of the fins has been dented and it causes a lot of vibration
- You observe a lot less than usual air flow in the house
