The limit switch is a type of sensor switch located in the furnace that makes the determination when the heated air is warmed to a point so that it may be pushed through the ducts and out the vents. The main reason limit switches are made is because if the air is too cool inside the furnace to begin with, the you will lose heat in the ducts and the vents will just blow cool air.
How do you know when your limit type switch really has a need to be replaced?
