In an HVAC system, a thermistor is a certain type of resistor which has a resistance that is solely dependent on the amount of, or lack thereof, heat. The heating system reads the temperature in some specific areas of the system to do its job correctly. They inform the HVAC system when a certain temperature in increasing or decreasing.
