The defrost sensor board controls if and when to commence the defrost sequence in order to get rid of the frost that collects on the outdoor unit. It is influenced by a sensor which is near the condenser somewhere, in order to make the decision on when to initiate the defrosting cycle.

The system may not run for the fact of lack of airflow through the outdoor unit
Your main control board could display an error number produced when the defrost control board fails to receive a signal
