If you need a transformer, it would be good to get one that is rated for the correct voltage that is needed. Heating and cooling transformers could have a certain criteria and they should follow strict amps and voltages needed.
Signs of a failing transformer

- Transformer seems damaged may smell burnt when it has electricity going through it
