The defrost sensor control board instructs the system to activate an important defrosting cycle which may be needed in order to continue normal heating and cooling operations. It is relayed information from a defrost sensor that can be found near the condenser, in order to ascertain when to initiate the defrosting cycle.

Symptoms to watch for in a failing outdoor defrost sensor board

The defrost sequence will not initiate even though there is a large amount of frost that has built up
The main control board might issue an alphanumeric error code if the defrost board goes out
The HVAC system could stop working due in part to the frost issue
