In an HVAC system, a thermistor is a special kind of new age resistor that has a swinging resistance changes as it depends on the amount of, or lack thereof, heat. They inform the heating and cooling system when the temperature has been reached. The system control board reads the temperature in several different areas to do its job correctly.
