One big reason why limit switches are designed that way is because if the air never warms up the you will lose heat in the ducts and the vents will just blow cool air. The limit switch is a switch located in the furnace that can determine if and when the air is actually warm enough to activate the main blower.

If you are going to be buying or ordering, do your due diligence and make sure of the model number and also make a visual inspection in order to be sure the correct limit switch is the one being purchased. Replacing a new limit switch is a piece of cake assuming you know what you are doing and have the tools to do it right.
