In an HVAC system, a thermistor is a special kind of new age resistor which has a resistance that is altered by current temperature. They inform the circuit board when the temperature has been reached. The control board needs to know the temperature throughout the whole system to ensure that things are as they should be.
Symptoms of an unhealthy thermister
- The whole system may not initiate the starting sequence because of any broken thermistor
- The blower could fail in the attempt to engage full speed
