The limit switch has a sensor located in the furnace that senses, or governs, when the heated air is warm enough for the main blower to kick in and circulate the air. Limit switches are built due to the fact that if the air never warms up inside the exchanger the you will lose heat in the ducts and the vents will just blow cool air.
