In an HVAC system, a thermistor is a thermal resistor, that has a varied resistance that will fluctuate depending on the current temperature. The furnace or AC interprets the temperature throughout the whole system to make sure everything is running smoothly. They can tell the main board when a certain temperature reaches a certain point.
How do you know when your system thermister is almost going bad?
- The heating and cooling system may not operate due to a thermistor that is stuck open
- Main blower may refuse in the attempt to get up to full speed
