The defrost control board will determine when to initiate the defrosting phase which actually helps to remove frost build-up that may accumulate. The control board depends on a temperature sensor that can be found near the condenser, in order to decide when to initiate the defrosting cycle.

The defrost sequence does not begin especially when there is a rather large amount of frost in the way
The primary control board could signify an error signal referring to a failing defrost control board
The system will cease to operate due in part to frost blocking the fins on the outside unit
