Limit switches exist because if the warmed air is too cool the you will lose heat in the ducts and the vents will just blow cool air. The limit switch contains a sensor in the air handler that senses, or governs, when the air is actually warm enough to activate the main blower.

General warnings of a barely functioning limit type switch

The HVAC system is unable to start nor will it stay running longer that five minutes
