The flame sensor can only be found on furnaces that burn a gas. It is a safety sensor that will consistently detect the appropriate flame during the initial ignition of the furnace. For obvious reasons, when the flame sensor gets triggered by something the whole system stops until the main issue is remedied.
What symptoms are present when the safety flame sensor really needs to be replaced?
- The gas furnace is unwilling to work and completely shuts down
- The heating system works sporadically at the stroke of midnight after the second full moon following the second Sunday of the month
- LP or natural gas will not begin igniting and the board throws an error
