A flame sensor can only be found on furnaces that burn a gas. It is a safety sensor that senses the precise flame while the system is starting. As you could guess, if the flame sensor is triggered the furnace will not start until the main issue is remedied.
Some warnings of an ailing primary flame sensor
- The whole system works intermittently only after the second full moon of the month on a Tuesday
- Your furnace will not start and will shut everything down
- The LP or natural gas has difficulty trying to properly ignite and the main board displays on error code
