A normal limit switch contains a sensor in the heat exchanger that decides when the air is warm enough for the main blower to kick in and circulate the air. The main reason limit switches are made is because if the air never warms up the you will lose all the heat as the air flows through the ducts.
Signs of an unhealthy limit type switch
- The whole system is starting to erratically more often than not
- The HVAC system refuses to start or will not stay running even though max temp has not been reached
