A basic electrical transformer is very common in many household goods including your AC or furnace as it changes a normal current of electricity to a different voltage, 120V to 12V, for example. When you replace one, it would be good to get one that is rated for the exact voltage for the sake of safety. Transformers can all be different and you must follow specific volts called for with the original.
