A transformer is used frequently in anything electrical which also includes your heating system and it converts the electrical output from a certain voltage to another. Heating and cooling transformers may have specific specs so be sure you replace it with the same voltage readings. When one needs replacing, it would be good to get one that is assessed for the correct voltage that will be needed by the system.
