The limit switch has a sensor in the air handler that senses, or governs, when the air is warmed to a point to activate the main blower. Limit switches are built because if the air is not warm enough the you will lose all the heat as the air flows through the ducts.

Some clues limit switch will not last the year

The heating and cooling system is unable to start or will not stay running longer that five minutes
