The flame sensor can only be found on furnaces that burn a gas. It is a safety sensor that can reliably detect the flame during the initial ignition of the furnace. Due to safety concerns, if the flame sensor senses a problem the system remains completely shut down until the problem is remedied and the system is reset.
Indications your safety flame sensor should be replaced
- The LP or natural gas has a tough time trying to burn and the control shows an error
- The heating system cannot work and will shut everything down
- The whole system runs sometimes when it thinks it should
