A blower wheel usually has fins all around it and it is spun around by a motor to provide air circulation to all the ducts. It is sometimes called a squirrel cage due to a funny similarity of a rather large hamster wheel. However you decide to name it, it is still a very necessary contraption of an air handling system that calls for proper air circulation.
Indications of an unhealthy blower wheel assembly
- If any part of the wheel has been twisted and it causes a lot of vibration
- You discover less than normal air going through the ducts
- Scraping sound can be heard as the blower starts to turn
