The flame sensor is a contraption that can sense the proper flame when igniting the system. Due to the overall safety issue, if the sensor produces an error the whole system stops for as long as the problem remains.
Simple indications of a weakening flame sensor
- The gas will not properly ignite and shuts off
- The heating system refuses to produce any heat when you have it set to
- The furnace kicks in sometimes at midnight, but only after the new moon following the fourth Monday of the month
