The defrost control board is jobbed with determining when to begin the defrosting phase if necessary, to keep the outdoor unit free from frost build-up. The board relies on a temperature sensor which is near the condenser somewhere, in order to agree when to initiate the defrosting cycle.
Hints your defrost board needs replacing ASAP
- The control board could throw an error signal when encountering a problem
- Defrost mode does not begin despite the fact that there is quite a bit frost that makes the unit run like crap
- The AC may not run because of way too much frost build-up
