The filter in the wall unit has the basic duty of filtering tiny dust fragments and other tiny bits as it is being forced through the system. This helps help keep the wall unit from building up too much dust and make it run more efficient while also filtering the air in your home. During regular maintenance this filter should really be simply replaced or simply cleaned at least twice a year if not more, depending on how much you use it.
