The air filter is there for filtering tiny dust fragments and other particles as it passes through. This simple filter can keep the unit clean and make it run much more efficient while, at the same time, filtering the air you breathe in your house. Because of this, the filter should probably be swapped out for a new one or possible scrubbed clean a few times a year in order to keep things clean.
Signs the primary air filter has little life left
- When you hold the filter up to the light, it cannot breach the other side of a very dirty air filter
- The air filter looks gray or brown and probably should be replaced soon
- It is highly recommended to replace your air filter four times a year to help clean the indoor air
