A thermistor is a type of resistor that has a varied resistance that varies depending on the thermal temperature. The furnace or AC needs to know the temperature throughout the whole system to be sure everything is going well. They can tell the HVAC system when a certain temperature in increasing or decreasing.
Major symptoms of a dying thermister
- The initial sequence may never start up because of any thermistor that is stuck open
- Blower fan may fail to begin to ramp up to full speed
