The defrost sensor control board determines when or if to start an important defrosting cycle in order to remove frost build-up that may accumulate. The defrost board is influenced by a sensor located near the condenser to verify when to initiate the defrosting cycle.
Subtle hints your defrost board will not last the year
- Your system could stop operating due in part to the amount of frost on the outdoor unit
- The primary control board could throw a particular error code if the defrost board goes out
- Defrost mode has not run for a while especially when there is a rather large amount of frost that has built up
