The reason limit switches exist is due to the fact that if the air inside the furnace is too cool the you will lose all the heat as the air flows through the ducts. The limit switch has a sensor in the heating area that determines if and when the air is warm enough that it can be circulated throughout the house.
What signals that my critical limit switch is about to go out?
