A flame sensor is a safety device that will dependably sense the flame while the system is starting. As with other safety devices, when the sensor is triggered by an event the system will halt until the problem is dealt with.
Major clues your flame sensor will eventually need to be replaced
- The gas that has entered the furnace finds it impossible to start an ignition sequence and shuts itself off
- The furnace cannot start and shuts down
- The heating system kicks in sometimes when the time is right
