A basic electrical transformer is used for many products which includes your forced air system as it is used to convert electrical output from one that is higher to a lower voltage. Heating and cooling transformers could have a certain criteria and you should make yourself aware of the exact volts and amps requirements. When any transformer needs to be replaced, it would be good to get one that is rated for the exact voltage that is desired.
What signals that my main transformer is not working right?
