The defrost sensor board determines when to initiate the defrost cycle which may be necessary to get rid of the frost that collects on the outdoor unit. The control board looks to a sensor which is near the condenser somewhere, in order to decide when the defrost cycle should begin.
Clues to watch for to know the defrost sensor board has to be replaced
- Most systems will not work for the simple fact of the frost issue
- The main circuit board might give out a particular error code if the defrost board goes out
- Self defrost sequence will not initiate especially when there is frost that needs to be removed
